Been working on this for a couple of days, it was started years ago and I had managed to get the bodywork sprayed but then for some reason it ended up back in the stash. I'm haven't done a blow by blow account of this build as I just wanted to get something finished and in the cabinet as quick as possible but I did take a some pics as I went along so I'll post them here Pete

Engine was painted with alclad steel,white aluminium and aluminum and the details picked out with Vallejo The yellow circle you can see in this pic was me painting clear yellow over the aluminium to see if it gave a nice gold effect ( as you can see it didn't lol ) it won't be seen at the end as the small chain sprocket goes over the top of it

In the instructions for these Tamiya MotoGP bikes there is a lot of colour call outs to paint things semigloss black but mostly it means these parts are carbon fibre. I have carbon fibre decal sheets but when I tried to use them they just broke up in water ( fallout from 6 months in a storage container a few years ago ) So I decided to paint the effect on, I used 2 methods for this First one was to use a bit of mesh and spray alclad aluminium over semi gloss black and then a good coat of Tamiya smoke I used the mesh for the smaller parts

For larger parts ( in this case the airfix ) I used a ladies stocking. It's not mine honestly, these aren't my colour and I prefer tights anyway After the Alcad aluminium And after a light coat of smoke. I didn't go too heavy as reference pics sow this part to be more of a "raw" carbon finish fitted into the frame Engine in place too

Handle bars are in. I'm using the meatball fork set on this amd the tops are supposed to be painted silver but I just couldn't get paint to stick on them ( it just wipes off even when dry )

Drilled out the rear disc. It was time consuming as I had to ream out each hole after drilling to get a clean finish Halfway done here Exhaust finished, I used alclad polished stainless steel as a base and pale burnt metal, hot blue and Tamiya clear orange for the heat staining I didn't go too nuts with this as I'm going to display the bike with the fairings on so not much will be visible

Wheels are done and as its been a while since I built a MotoGP bike I'd forgotten what a major ball ache they are to put on lol Rear hugger was given the stocking carbon fibre treatment Brake calipers finished

Hard to see but the LCD display surround got carbon too Body panels got decals added.

I didn't notice it until after I had put the decal on ( law of the sod in full effect lol ) but it doesn't really notice too much to the eye Pete

Assembly time Happy with how my stocking carbon effect came out as the bracket is pretty close to the finish of the muffler ( which is a decal ) Nearly there now

auto correct fail hmm, do you use that excuse in verbal communications too ? I know I do as carbon fibre four candles, I seriously doubt it will make any real detrimental impact on the model overall. I do love the effect though, I would be tempted to do the whole thing like that ! mind you if you're looking for an excuse to do more fibretasticness the insides of the fairings are unpainted CF (usually) Anyhow, lovely work all round __________________ May The Farce Be With You ! I was Suprised how well it turned out, it's a shame my carbon decals are FUBAR as I have a few different top studio sheets and they were hardly used. I just wanted to get this one out of the way as quick as possible so didn't paint the insides of the fairings on this one, also my painting skills were a bit pants when I did the blue on this so I didn't even bother to clear coat lol. I'm taking some time off from planes for a while so I'm planning to build a few MotoGP bikes, I've got a Repsol Honda rc211v with a crazy modeller detail up set ( including full electronic wiring ) that I will give the full works and display with the fairings off. I have the Rossi 05 50th anniversery bike along with the 09 bike and riding figure, a Ducati Desmosedici, a Kawaskai zz xr and an Nsr 500 from the 90s in the stash, just need to pick one Pete
